All three types of assistance are described here.

Tuition Assistance Program (TAP)

Our TAP pays one-third tuition for up to 6 hours per semester. For example, students enrolled in a degree-seeking or certification-seeking program for 3 hours in the fall or spring term are eligible to apply for 1 hour of tuition assistance per term; students enrolled in a degree-seeking program or certification-seeking for 6 or more hours in the fall or spring term are eligible to apply for 2 hours of tuition assistance per term. Summer school is considered one term.  Students are eligible to apply for tuition assistance for the first 36 hours of study specified in their Program of Studies. All TAP funds are awarded based on application, enrollment, and eligibility as of the 100% drop-date in the fall and spring semesters. The deadline to apply for TAP for a full academic year is March 16.  Applications allow you to apply for the upcoming summer, fall and spring terms.  Applications submitted after the deadline will be considered only if funds are available. To view Applications for TAP please click here. Applications are also available from the Office of Graduate Studies in the Bailey Building.

Teaching Assistantships (TA)

Teaching Assistantships are awarded to augment a student’s graduate studies.  At the same time, the student provides support to a professor or College of Education project. Teaching Assistants provide support for activities undertaken by professors directly related to one or more classes.  These activities may include teaching, tutoring, grading, preparing materials for class, etc.  The Teaching Assistant may also provide support for activities undertaken by the professor directly related to becoming better at the profession.  These activities may include data collection and entry, data analysis, observation, library search, preparation of materials, helping to organize a conference or publish a journal. The College of Education offers two types of Teaching Assistantships, the TA and TAS. The TA is an award of nine hours tuition during fall and spring semesters in exchange for 10 hours per week to a COE faculty member or project. The TAS is an award of nine hours tuition and a stipend during fall and spring semesters.  The TAS student assist faculty or projects 20 hours per week. Scholarships

All graduate students may apply for scholarships. Scholarship applications are available on the web, from the Office of Graduate Studies, and via email.  Students who receive Teaching Assistantships are not considered for scholarships.  Scholarship funds are not used in conjunction with TAP.  Students who receive a scholarship are eligible for TAP the semester after they have depleted their scholarship award.
